 Dubai Summer Surprises 2006 (DSS) was officially inaugurated at a high-powered ceremony at the Mall of the Emirates. The opening ceremony officially ushered in the grand summer fiesta to welcome a summer full of fun, entertainment and smiles amidst cheering crowds and VIPs.
The latest addition to the state-of-the-art shopping malls of Dubai, the Mall of the Emirates played perfect host to the gala opening ceremony. The mall was transformed into a water wonderland and attracted huge crowds comprising of visitors and residents from across the UAE as well as other countries. The spectacular event laced with electrifying performances by a 23 member Russian troupe of acrobats was interspersed by magnificent laser shows which also marked the formal opening of the Ice Surprises Week (June 21 to June 28), the first of the 10 themed weeks of DSS 2006. DEWA, the organisers of the Ice Surprises Week staged the fabulous show which was a curtain raiser to the two and a half month long summer event and gave a glimpse to the attendees about what to expect in the days ahead.The spectacular opening ceremony, whose main sponsor was Best Home Real Estate, and support sponsors are Samsung, Magrabi Opticals and Celio, was watched by hundreds and thousands of visitors and was aired live on Al Multaqa programme of Sama Dubai TV.
The special performance began with Modhesh who came down skiing on the ice rink and was cheered by all. Then came the main highlight of the show, a performance by world renowned Shangri-La acrobatic ice circus. The specially created ice rink spread across an area of 450 sq m in the Galleria area of the Mall of the Emirates staged the half-an-hour long show by the acrobatic performances, a show endorsed by former Olympic skating champion Katerina Witt. The troupe performed recently in Australia and Germany and flew down to Dubai to perform at the DSS. They made the opening ceremony truly memorable for all.
The high-powered show left the audiences absolutely spell bound. It also featured ice dancers, trapeze artists and jugglers who staged an impressive performance. A dazzling custom built laser show featuring Modhesh amazed everybody present especially the children. The delightful show ended on a bright note with a fabulous laser show.
