Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza), organized the Big Breakfast recently in association with Young Leader, the sponsors from the Mohammed Bin Rashid Program for Leadership Development, and under the patronage of H.H Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone Authority, as part of its efforts to raise funds for the benefit of Thalassaemia afflicted patients and their families.
Jafza was successful in raising considerable amount of fund through this initiative, which will go towards financing research into Thalassaemia, providing education for patients, conducting prevention programs and ensuring support to families of patients.
A number of companies from Jafza attended the Big Breakfast extending their total support to the authority. With close coordination with several of these companies within the zone, Jafza was able to raise a significant amount of fund that will benefit numerous Thalassaemia patients in the UAE.
Salma Hareb, CEO of Jafza said during the event, “The Big Breakfast is the first of its kind in the Middle East and is of great relevance to us. We are totally committed in providing continuous assistance to the UAE government and to ally with them in their initiative, taken under the Sheikh Mohammed Program for National Development, to eradicate Thalassaemia. We are proud of the fact that, with extensive help from the companies operating within Jafza, we were successful in raising sufficient resources for the benefit of Thalassaemia afflicted patients and for improving healthcare facilities and services for the UAE residents. This campaign is also a part of our Corporate Social Responsibility that allows us to support a local cause in the UAE.”
“We are pleased that all our companies have enthusiastically participated in this program, and have completely coordinated with us in our efforts to raise awareness about the disease. We appreciate their efforts and offer our gratitude to everyone who contributed to the event,” concluded Hareb.
Thalassaemia is becoming a significant public health problem in Dubai, with more and more people in the region carrying the disease. Big Breakfast is a campaign organized by various government and private organizations all over Dubai, to raise money for Thalassaemia research and to support patients suffering from the disease.
Proceeds from the event will go for funding research into Thalassaemia, a disorder that affects a significant percentage of the UAE population. The UAE government has been encouraging several companies in the UAE to co-ordinate efforts aimed to completely eradicate the disease by 2012.
