Borouge, the provider of value creating, innovative plastics solutions, today announced that it is to sponsor the F1 Emirates Team for the UIM Formula One World Powerboat Championship.. The sponsorship agreement will be seen in action for the first time at the Grand Prix race in Portimao, Portugal on Sunday, 28 May.
With races as far apart as Greece, Italy, Malaysia and China, and a global television audience of 70 million viewers, prominent positioning on the sides of the cockpit and on race uniforms will see the Borouge name travel the world. It will also make appearances on home waters later in the year when the Championship comes to Abu Dhabi and Sharjah in December.
The sponsorship agreement is a celebration of Borouge’s ongoing commitment to the kind of world class innovation that makes the F1 Powerboat Championship one of the most complex and exciting sports in the world.
It also reflects Borouge’s belief that plastic materials make a vital contribution in all walks of modern life, from high speed powerboats to advanced packaging, healthcare, communication cables and the pipes that deliver valuable drinking water to homes and businesses. This philosophy is embodied in the company’s tagline -‘Shaping the Future with Plastics’ - which appears on the sponsorship livery.
The F1 Emirates Team is based at the Abu Dhabi International Marine Sports Club in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The F1 Boat, driven by three times World Champion Scott Gillman and team-mate Thani Al-Qamzi, also three times F2000 Champion, is a five metre catamaran constructed using a fibre glass and plastic compound. The boat, which weighs around 500 kg has a 400 horse power engine, travels at speeds in excess of 140 mph.
