Continuing with its aggressive yet planned focus on the Indian realty and hospitality market, Dubai-based Emaar Properties is all set to introduce the Armani brand of boutique hotels to India.
Speaking exclusively to Express Hospitality, Mohammed Al Alabbar, chairman, Emaar Properties, revealed that in its initial phase Armani Hotels & Resorts will build about 10 hotels in the snazziest cities of the world. "And if all goes as planned, India too will see an Armani hotel. Currently, we are deliberating on the selection of a city; it is either Mumbai or Delhi." This move comes close on the heels to the group's recent development in the Indian market, in which Emaar Properties tied up with Delhi-based MGF Development Limited to bring in India's largest FDI in real estate of Rs 18,000 crore.
Alabbar sees the Armani Hotel as an integrated project, which will house an apartment along with hotels or resorts. "Our Indian partner has already been given the brief to scout for a suitable location. Everything in the hotel will be designed by Armani and will have a signature product right from the towel and bedlinen to the door lock. While Emaar will construct and take care of hotel management, Giorgio Armani will look after the design and supply of products," he revealed.
Meanwhile, plans are on for setting up Armani hotels in Milan, Dubai, Marrakech, New York, Paris and London. Continuing with its growth plans, of the 100-odd malls that the company plans to build globally, around 50 will be set up in major Indian cities. The tag is a cool US $40 million per mall. Work on the project, to be spread over a million square feet each, is expected to begin soon.
