Decision on travels for Fields Of Omagh on Tuesday
  3/6/2006 1:36:21 PM
The David Hayes trained veteran Fields Of Omagh is almost certain to travel to Dubai after the 26 member owner syndicate left the decision on travelling the eight-year-old after Saturday’s Group I Futurity Stakes win at Caulfield.

“The owners are going to leave the decision to me and I think we will accept the invitation” said Hayes to Steven Moran on Racing Central, Sport 927, on Monday morning.

“We will leave it 24 hours, but I see no reason not to go,” said Hayes.

Hayes explained that Fields Of Omagh would have to be inoculated on Monday and the stable was checking travel arrangements to transport Fields Of Omagh to Dubai.

“He is a nice fresh horse which is the way you need to go. In Hong Kong he was running on the wrong leg, and in Japan he was tired after a big long Cox Plate preparation,” said Hayes.

“He is a Melbourne horse and in Dubai he can run on his Melbourne leg.

“I have been to Dubai a few times and the track is quite spongy so he should hit out well,” he added explaining that the sand base of the track allows for the give in the track.

Hayes did not think that the Dubai trip would harm a fresh 2006 spring WS Cox Plate campaign as Fields Of Oamgh was used to the travelling with each trip from Lindsay Park in South Australia, where Fields Of Omagh is prepared by Tony McEvoy, taking eight to 10 hours.

Earlier Report: Flemington trainer David Hayes is set to meet the owners of Group I Futurity Stakes winner Fields Of Omagh in a bid to persuade them to allow him to take the eight-year-old to Dubai for the Duabi World Cup meeting.

The original plans announced by Hayes after the win was to spell Fields Of Omagh to prepare for a fifth attempt at the WS Cox Plate in the spring. However, Hayes said on Sunday that he would like to attempt the second leg of the Asian Mile Challenge in Dubai at the end of the month.
This leg of the Asian Mile Challenge is the Group I WFA Dubai Duty Free (1777m) on grass at Nad Al Sheba on March 25th, 2006.

Fields Of Omagh has not travelled well in the past, each time travelling after a WS Cox Plate campaign. He finished last in the 2003 Japan Cup (2400m) and unplaced, and well back, in the Hong Kong Vase (2400m), and then another unplaced and well back run in the Hong Kong Cup in 2004.

Hayes will meet the owners on Tuesday. The idea for a syndicate to race a horse was born on a trip of Melbourne Racing Club members to the Dubai World Cup, and Fields Of Omagh was the happy result. He has earned the 26 member ownership stakes of $4.6 million.
