  3/4/2006 9:36:55 AM
Electrocutionist, a Group 1 winner on turf, emphatically passed his dirt test for the Dubai World Cup (UAE-G1) with a seven-length victory on Thursday in the $300,0000 Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid al Maktoum Challenge Round III (UAE-G2) at Nad al Sheba racecourse.

The Kentucky-bred son of Red Ransom was making his first start for Godolphin Racing, which purchased him privately from Earle Mack over the winter.

Guided by jockey Frankie Dettori, Electrocutionist took control with 200 meters remaining in the 2,000-meter (9.94-furlong) event and stopped the clock in 2:01.06 over a fast track.

Previously based in Italy with trainer Valfredo Valiani, Electrocutionist won the 2005 Juddmonte International (Eng-G1) at York and Gran Premio di Milano (Ity-G1) at Milan. He finished fourth and was placed third in the Canadian International Stakes (Can-G1) on October 23 at Woodbine in his final start last year.

Godolphin and private trainer Saeed bin Suroor won the Maktoum Challenge Round III with Dubai Millennium in 2000 and with Street Cry (Ire) in '02 prior to their victories in the World Cup.

Chiquitin finished second behind Electrocutionist, with Elmustanser another two lengths back in third.

Also on the card featuring six prep races for the Dubai World Cup (UAE-G1) card on March 25, French highweight Touch of Land (Fr) tuned up for the $5-million Dubai Duty Free (UAE-G1) with a 1 ¼-length win in the $250,000 Jebel Hatta (UAE-G2) on the turf.

Touch of Land, winner of the 2005 Prix Dollar (Fr-G2) at Longchamp for owner Gary Tanaka, covered the 1,777 meters in 1:52.05.

Simpatico Bribon earned his seventh consecutive win in the $150,000 Al Bastikiya, a prep for the United Arab Emirates Derby (UAE-G2).

Tropical Star registered his first stakes win in the $200,000 Mahal al Shimaal (UAE-G3) at 1,200 meters (5.97 furlongs), which serves as a prep for the $2-million Dubai Golden Shaheen (UAE-G1).
