(03/06/06 -- WASHINGTON) - Sixteen other American seaports are affected by the controversial ports deal involving a company based in Dubai.
A review by The Associated Press found DP World will also have limited operations in ports such as Boston; Baton Rouge; Corpus Christi, Texas; Tampa; Gulfport, Mississippi; and Portland, Maine.
DP World acquired those rights when it bought a British firm for $6.8 billion. That deal was approved today by British courts.
The flap over DP World has centered around the significant control it will have over operations in New York, New Jersey, Baltimore, New Orleans, Miami, and Philadelphia.
The company is voluntarily submitting to another safety review by American officials. It says none of its executives will control or influence its business in the U.S. until that's finished.
