Johnny Murtagh made a triumphant return to Flat racing after just being touched off over hurdles at Cheltenham by winning the Listed Jebel Ali Sprint on Raging Creek.
The Irishman flew over to Dubai straight after finishing second on Golden Cross in the Ladbrokes World Hurdle over three miles at the Festival yesterday.
He got Dhruba Selvaratnam's charge home first in the five-furlong dash which was run in a sandstorm, a victory which could be good enough to secure a berth in the sprint on World Cup night at Nad Al Sheba.
Murtagh said: "He has done that well and I was always happy out in front. He loves this track and has a lot of pace. He was never going to be caught.
"Cheltenham was great and the atmosphere was unbelievable. It would have been nice to win obviously but the horse ran a great race."
Ted Durcan was in the winner's enclosure after the seven-furlong conditions race which he won comfortably on Alec Laird's Red Duster.
Willie Supple produced Doug Watson's Manrique to lead right on the line on the six-furlong handicap while Richard Hills produced a similar effort on the same trainer's Muzdaher in the seven-furlong handicap.
The other thoroughbred race, an 11-furlong handicap, was easily won by Royston Ffrench on Ali Rashid Al Raihe's Vanishing Act.
