FIELDS of Omagh tuned up for his trip to Dubai with a pleasing gallop at Moonee Valley this morning.
The eight year old will fly out tomorrow for the $6.7 million Dubai Duty Free on March 25, and the David Hayes stable is confident he will be at his best for the race.
Assistant trainer Gary Fennessy said Fields of Omagh worked over 1400m on the StrathAyr track, going 14sec to the furlong (200m) before quickening up over the final 400m in 25sec.
Brad Rawiller rode Fields of Omagh as race rider Steven King was in Adelaide for the Adelaide Cup meeting.
"He's in great order," Fennessy said of the dual Group I winner.
Fields of Omagh won the 2003 Cox Plate at Moonee Valley and the Futurity Stakes at Caulfield at his latest outing.
Fields of Omagh has returned in great style since his third in last year's Cox Plate, finishing third to Perfect Promise and Lad of The Manor in the C.F. Orr Stakes at Caulfield before his Futurity victory over Red Dazzler and Rosden.
"His next run will be his best," Fennessy said.
"He only has to travel well and and he'll be right in it I'd think.
He's doing everything right. The other times he's travelled overseas he's been over the top."
Tony McEvoy, who trained Fields of Omagh to win the Cox Plate, and who is now assistant trainer to Hayes at Lindsay Park, will accompany the gelding on the flight.
The Lee Freedman-trained mare Perfect Promise will also start in the Dubai Duty Free (1777m) at Nad Al Sheba, and will be on the same flight tomorrow.
The South African import is in good form, too, winning the C.F. Orr Stakes first-up before her close fourth in the Futurity.
However, Lad of The Manor will not be making the trip after finishing fifth as favourite to Roman Arch in the Australian Cup at Flemington on Saturday.
Trainer Roger Hoysted said the Zabeel gelding had back and leg issues, but he was hoping to get him to Sydney for the autumn carnival.
Fields of Omagh and Perfect Promise will be accompanied on the flight by the Mick Price-trained three year old Perfectly Ready, who will contest the Golden Shaheen over the straight 1200m course on dirt.
