BEIJING, Feb. 21 -- Chinese top players Zheng Jie and Li Na both failed in the first round of the Dubai Open Tuesday morning (Beijing Time) in the face of world top players.
Zheng Jie, the Australian Open doubles champion, lost to Russian Anastasia Myskina, the 2004 French Open champion.
Zheng lost her first set 6-3 but fought hard in the second set 7-6 to even the score. However, Myskina proved to have the upper hand and completed the match with a decent 6-1 third set win.
Another Chinese player Li Na set a good tune for her game against Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia by winning the first set 6-3.
Hantuchova rallied back 6-4 to tie against Li Na. The two went head to head in the third set, but it was Hantuchova who had the last laugh with a 7-6 triumph.
Other Chinese players will take to the court tonight.
