Sania to face Hingis in round one of Dubai Open |

DUBAI: Sania Mirza will take on comeback queen and former world number one Martina Hingis of Switzerland in the first round of the Tier II one million dollar Dubai Duty Free Women's Open which starts here on Monday.
The 19-year old Hyderabadi, ranked 38th in the world, has a tough draw in the 32-player event and could run into former French Open champion Anastasia Myskina in the second round if she gets past the Swiss Miss, who is now ranked 48th after she made a remarkable comeback last year.
Sania, who has had a string of poor shows this year failing to get past the second round in three tournaments so far -- Australian Open, Paris Indoor Open and Bangalore Open -- has the prospect of meeting Russian Maria Sharapova in the quarter finals if she runs through Myskina.
Defending champion Lindsay Davenport is also placed in her half of the draw and the Indian star will face the defending champion in the semis if she manages to outwit the hard-hitting Russian pro.
Australian Open champion Amelie Mauresmo and Justine Henin Hardenne are in the other half of the draw and they have been granted byes just like Sharapova and Davenport.
Sania hit headlines here last year when she beat then US Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia as a wild card.
