DUBAI — Ed Nicholas returns from injury to lead Dubai Exiles in their Arabian Gulf League trip up the Sheikh Zayed Road to Abu Dhabi on Friday (5pm).
The flanker suffered a broken nose in the recent setback against Dubai Dragons but has recovered to reclaim his place in the back row.
Lock Richard Brooks has been named in the second row, winger Steve Smith is called up from the second team and there is a chance at scrum-half for new arrival Dan Patchin.
Nicolas said: “After having a week off I’m hungry to get back and help the team to a good win.”
Dubai Hurricanes are without skipper Chris Gregory who cannot travel to Doha on Friday so Ben Twomey leads the side from inside centre while John Mamea is again selected at stand off.
The Hurricanes will return to the top of the league thanks to banking three points for completing an away fixture, although the most improved team in the region are aiming for six as they continue to chase an ambitious trophy double for the season.
Arabian Gulf development officer Bruce Morton makes his full debut for Sharjah Wanderers at scrum-half for the trip to Muscat, linking up with Gulf under-19 international fly-half Kyle Bennie.
Kuwait Nomads wrap up the weekend programme by entertaining Bahrain on Friday.
