The third and concluding course under the media courses for working journalists announced by the Dubai Press Club in cooperation with the Zayed University Media Center (ZUMC) and supported by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) will commence on Wednesday, 22nd February 2006.
The media course for which registration is currently open is ‘Language of Reporting’. The two-day workshop (22-23 February) will be conducted at the Dubai Press Club premises at the Dubai Media City.
Taught by experienced educators from Zayed University, these workshops are part of a curriculum designed to strengthen the skills of journalists in the fundamentals of their craft and to improve the quality of UAE reporting. Successful participants will receive a Certificate from Zayed University Media Center, the continuing education and research division of the College of Communication and Media Sciences at Zayed University.
"Continuous improvement of skills should be a goal of every professional communicator," says Kenneth Starck, Dean of the College of Communication and Media Sciences at Zayed University. "Professional communicators play a key informational role in making society work successfully, and the Media Center is committed to making available the latest ideas and best practices."
Nuha Mohammed Safar, Director of Public Relations and Events Department at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI), hailed the efforts of the Dubai Press Club in upgrading the vocational competency of the national youth working in journalism. "The DCCI's support for these media and journalism training courses and workshops comes in the line of the Chamber's strategy of supporting the local community in cooperation with Zayed University to improve youth's professional skills, create new job opportunities and enhance journalists' performance," she said.
“In today’s fast track media environment media professionals have to keep up with the demands of their work and also upgrade their skills. These workshops organized in collaboration with ZUMC will provide expertise and instruction that is tailored to the needs of the journalists in the region,” said Mohammed Al Mansoori, Executive Director of Dubai Press Club.
The ‘Language of Reporting’ is an intensely practical course carried out in a workshop atmosphere that will help fine-tune the reporting skills of journalists. The course will help polish writing skills while working on fundamentals of style, understanding the essentials of grammar, spelling, and punctuation; and practicing writing concisely and clearly.
