Likhotseva makes perfect start at Dubai Championship |

 DUBAI: Elena Likhotseva of Russia beat Jelena Jankovic of Serbia-Montenegro 7-5, 7-5 on Monday in the first round of the Dubai Tennis Championship.
The 16th-placed Likhotseva was always in control against the error-prone Jankovic, last year’s runner-up, who twice needed on-court assistance from a trainer. The Russian will now play defending champion and second-seeded Lindsay Davenport of the United States. “Jelena was not playing as well as she played last year,” Likhotseva said. “She made a lot of unforced errors and I am happy the match did not go into a third set. “I am looking forward to the Davenport match. It will be tough, but I know she is playing after some time off because of an ankle injury and that should give me some advantage.”
