Henin hopeful to play in Dubai
  2/8/2006 7:25:46 AM
Belgian tennis star Justine Henin-Hardenne is suffering from stomach ulcer and shoulder injury but is hopeful to return to the court later this month, Belgian broadcaster VRT reported Tuesday.

"I had shoulder tendinitis and I still haven't recovered completely... Hopefully I will be able to play in Dubai in two weeks' time," the world No. 5 said.

Severe stomach ache forced Henin to retire from her Austrian Open final against French Amelie Mauresmo on Jan. 28. She was trailing Mauresmo 6-1 and 2-0 at the time.

Henin took pills to stop the inflammation in her shoulder during the Austrian open, but that upset her stomach greatly.

"I have never had so much stomach pain in my life," Henin said Tuesday. "But without the medication, I would never have reached the final in the first place."

"It was a good thing I quit," she said.

Looking back at her performance in Australia, Henin said she was "95 percent satisfied" with the tournament. "I enjoyed it very much and made a promising start to the new season," the 23-year-old said.

Henin has resumed training sessions and is hoping to make her comeback in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, which runs from February 20 to 25. This is possible if her recovery goes as expected.

Henin claimed the title in the hard court outdoors event two years ago, beating Russia's Svetlana Kuznetsova in the final.
