AHMEDABAD/SURAT: Imagine world-class swanky skyscrapers and well-landscaped housing projects, a single standard for built-up specifications, quality and safety standards no matter what builder you decide to buy your dream home from.
That too here in Ahmedabad or Surat. Rubbing your eyes in disbelief ? After all, it doesn't fit in with the image of your local developer. But that's precisely what a bunch of 60 realtors — including six from Surat — who are just back all charged up from an eyeopener of a five-day study tour of Dubai have decided to do.
"As we stood atop the Burj Al Arab hotel, we resolved to standardise quality, safety and builtup specifications and set up testing labs at project sites," says Gujarat Institute of Housing & Estate Developers (GIHED) president Jaxay Shah.
The study tour was funded by GIHED members and the group had developers from not-so-upmarket areas. "A mega city like Ahmedabad needs world-class infrastructure, which is possible only if developers change their mindset and evolve a global vision," explains Shah...
...
But why Dubai? "If Dubai being in the desert can bring the world to its doorstep and prosper, why can't Ahmedabad?" queries Shah.
The large-scale housing projects have convinced Surat's Gautam Patel about unity. "To achieve economies of scale for big projects, we have to join hands."
Rushabh Patel of Parshwanath Corporation and Rajesh Brahmbhatt of Safal Infrastructure have decided to focus on design and landscaping.
