DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (UPI) -- Andre Agassi announced Sunday he will skip the men`s clay-court season to prepare for Wimbledon this summer.
'The clay has been pretty tough on my body over the last few years, and the last two years specifically,' he said. 'Unfortunately it`s been the reason I wasn`t ready for Wimbledon.'
The 35-year-old Agassi has been hampered by a lower back strain for several months. The injury has limited him to only two tournaments since he was beaten by Roger Federer in the title match of the U.S. Open last September.
Agassi was scheduled to face Greg Rusedski on Monday in the first round of the Dubai Tennis Championships, where Federer is the top seed and defending champion.
He has 60 career singles titles, won seven Grand Slams and has earned more than $31 million.
