Rock Music a big hit for Godolphin in Dubai
  2/3/2006 8:35:25 AM
GODOLPHIN opened their account for 2006 when Kerrin McEvoy steered Rock Music to a comfortable victory in the mile dirt handicap at Nad Al Sheba in Dubai yesterday.

Never far off the pace, the four-year-old son of Singspiel, formerly with David Loder, ran on resolutely to land the spoils to the delight of Saeed Bin Suroor.

"It is nice to get off the mark for the year. We were hoping for a big run as he had been working well," the trainer said.

Frankie Dettori watched that race from outside the weighing room but opened his account for the season when taking the concluding mile handicap on Andrew Balding's Pentecost. The Italian, replacing Seamus O'Gorman who was injured in a fall at Abu Dhabi on Sunday, produced the seven-year-old gelding to lead in the very last stride.

South African Herman Brown trained his first UAE winner when Ryan Moore made virtually all on Linngari in the feature race, the Group Three Al Rashidiya over nine furlongs on the grass. Setting a modest pace on the former Sir Michael Stoute-trained four-year-old, Moore kicked clear about two furlongs out and always looked likely to hold on.

Ted Durcan was in the saddle as John Gosden's Cashier ran out the convincing winner of the first of two mile handicaps on the grass. A four-year-old son of Alhaarth, he was always going to hold the challenge of Dettori on Godolphin's Desert Destiny.

Durcan completed a double when winning the extended seven-furlong grass handicap on Alec Laird's Caesar Beware.
