Dubai Metro project: Dubai Roads and Transport Authority(RTA) launched a new project " Dubai Metro" on 21st March 2006 . H.H Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai inaugurated the construction work.

The aims of Metro System are to provide an alternative mode of transport to ease congestion, save passengers traveling time, reduce traffic pollution thereby improving environmental quality, improve mobility within the City, provide connection to Dubai International Airport, and deliver modern, comfortable and reliable services to the Metro users. The Dubai Metro is intended to provide transport coverage and reach to all strategic areas of the City, and develop the network to branch out into the suburbs with future extensions.

The Dubai Metro project have 42 stations, including nine underground stations. A total of 87 trains with a passenger capacity of 600 commuters each will operate across the emirate of Dubai at intervals of 225 seconds, reduced to 90 seconds during rush hours.

This project is only one part of a complete and integrated transportation solution that the RTA is aiming to develop to cater to Dubai's infrastructural requirements The complete solution will include new train and bus stations, renovations and additions to the roads network, water transport systems and advanced commuting systems all aimed at providing safe and advanced means of transportation .

RTA Currents Projects:
The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has embarked on some major projects focusing on improving traffic movement and road networks by implementing short and long-term plans.

Widening "Emirates" road into 6 lanes :
RTA launched this project on 17 June 2006 to enhance the traffic flow. Roads and Traffic Agency, RTA, is widening "Emirates" road from 3 lanes into 6 lanes ion each direction . The project length is 34 km starting from Arabian Ranches roundabout to Dubai-Sharjah border.

Nad Al Hamr Roads/ II :
RTA launched this project on 23 May 2006 . This project includes the completion of paving local streets and aggregate area in Nad Al Hamr road with a length of 38 kilometers. It also includes the settlement of the sand pavement (No. 817) and other complementary work, such as paving pedestrian districts and lighting and other services.

Pavements in Jumeirah II :
RAT launched This project on 7 May 2007 for implementation of walking districts and parking in Jumeirah 2, in addition to completing the implementation of some roads in the region.

Enhancing Al Rasheed Street Intersection :
RTA launched this project on 28 March 2007. This project consists of replacing the existing street roundabouts on Al Rasheed Street with intersections equipped with lighting signals. Moreover, the number of lanes will be increased as well.

Enhancements over Oud Maitha/Al Riyadh intersection :
RTA launched this project on 28 March 2007. This project consists of a full replacement of the 2 roundabouts with 2 intersections in addition to the conversion of the existing Route No. 19 to a duplicated street with centralized island. Moreover, the project includes improving the alternative road network surrounding it.

Ras Al Khor Crossing/3B :
RTA launched this project on 25 March 2007. This project constitutes the second part of the Ras Khor intersection draft (crossing Ras Khor). The project includes building upper crossings in the regions of the intersection i / Nad Al Hamr with the i / Rabat as well as a lower crossing and two upper bridges in the of Dubai Festival City area thus bringing the number of total major constructions on this project seven upper bridges and two lower crossings.
