Dubai Internet City
Dubai Internet City (DIC) is an information technology park created by the government of Dubai as a free economic zone where companies can operate without restrictions on foreign ownership which exist elsewhere in the United Arab Emirates.
Dubai Internet City (DIC) provides a strategic and cost effective platform for ICT companies targeting emerging markets in a vast region extending from the Middle East to the Indian subcontinent, and from Africa to Central Asia.
DIC was launched in the year 2000. DIC now features a dynamic international community of ICT companies including global giants like Microsoft, Cisco Systems, IBM, HP, Dell, Siemens, Sun Microsystems, Computer Associates, PeopleSoft and Sony Ericsson. Many small and medium businesses (SMBs) and promising entrepreneurial ventures are also part of the community.
Dubai Internet City provides a Knowledge Economy Ecosystem that is designed to support the business development of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) companies. The cluster comprises companies from a variety of sectors - Software Development, Business Services, Web Based and e-Commerce, Consultancy, Sales and Marketing and Back Office.
It is the Middle East's biggest IT infrastructure, built inside a free trade zone, and has the largest commercial Internet Protocol Telephony system in the world. Dubai Internet City is a strategic base for companies targeting emerging markets in a vast region extending from the Middle East to the Indian subcontinent, and Africa to the CIS countries, covering 1.6 billion people with GDP $ 1.1 trillion.
This freedom has led many global information technology firms to move their regional base and resources to premises in the DIC. DIC is located right next to other industry clusters such as Dubai Media City and Dubai Knowledge Village.
DIC presently has over one and half million square feet of prime commercial office space, and there are over 850 companies with over 10,000 workers based in it.
Location
Dubai Internet City is about 25 kilometers south of the center of Dubai city on the Shaikh Zayed Road towards Abu Dhabi city. It is located in an area which is rapidly becoming the new downtown of Dubai. It is less than 1 km from the sea coast and is in near several five star hotels.
Dubai Internet City offers ready-to-operate, fully serviced office space complete with the up-to-date infrastructure that high-tech companies require. Companies can also take land on a renewable lease of up to 50 years and build their own offices.
DIC provides an environment that attracts all elements of the ICT value chain, and in addition, has developed several programmes that can be leveraged by the community to explore and expand channel development opportunities. Companies are privy to an advanced Metro Ethernet broadband infrastructure and a range of business-enabling services including government transactions. DIC also has the world’s largest commercial IP Telephony network.
