Racing in Dubai has enjoyed great success with races such as the world famous Dubai Golden Shaheen Cup, the so-called race that stops a nation, which has recently attracted many international entries.
Emirates Racing Authority is the internationally recognised governing body for horse racing in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It administers all aspects of the sport, including the implementation of the UAE Rules of Racing, the registration of horses for racing and the licensing of all trainers, jockeys, officials and stable personnel. It handles all entries and declarations for all race meetings in the UAE.
Thoroughbred Horse Race:-
The Thoroughbred is a horse breed developed in 18th century England when English mares were bred with imported Arabian stallions to create a distance racer. Also, "thoroughbred" is an adjective often used by laymen to describe fully-blooded descendants of a particular breed, although it is an incorrect use of the term.
The Thoroughbred is bred primarily for racing under saddle at the gallop. Some families of Thoroughbreds are known primarily as sprinters or as distance runners
Official Horse Races:-
At all official horse races, there is a gambling station, where gamblers can stake money on a horse.
The three most common ways to bet money are: bet to win, bet to place, and bet to show. Bet to win means that you stake money on the horse, and if it comes in first place, the gambler will receive the money. In bet to place, the gambler will stake money on the horse to come in first or second place, and if the horse does, the gambler wins money, but not as much as he would have if he had bet the horse to win. Bet to show means the gambler stakes money on the horse to come in first, second, or third. If the horse does, the gambler wins money, but not as much as they would have if they had bet on the horse to win or to place. In betting to place and betting to show, there is less risk of losing money.
Dubai World Cup:-
The Dubai World Cup is a thoroughbred horse race event held annually since 1996 at the Nad Al Sheba Racecourse, 10 minutes away from the city centre of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The race was the creation of Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, emir of Dubai, who owns Darley Stud, one of the world's leading thoroughbred breeding and racing operations. It is the world's richest horse race, with a purse of USD 6 million since 2004.
The race's first winner was the future United States Hall of Fame thoroughbred, Cigar.
Due to it's importance in racing, in 2006, the Dubai World Cup will be broadcast live on ABC. It will be the first time ever the race will be shown on National TV in the States.
